Lime Kiln, Ballydock, Portaferry, Co Down

This is a disused lime kiln, likely built in the mid-19th century, possibly between 1840 and 1859. Constructed of snecked rubble, it is built into a slight bank and is currently in poor order. The kiln is situated near the coastline, within a field to the south of Barr Hall Road, approximately three miles south of Portaferry. The front face features a central opening resembling a fireplace, which is now partly collapsed. The front and side walls are slightly battered, while the rear face is hidden by an earth access ramp. The main walls may have been reduced in height. The lime kiln is of industrial archaeological interest and is recorded as derelict. References include a 1978 article by T.
