Gate Lodge, 14 Steeple Road, Antrim, Co Antrim, BT41 1BL

The gate lodge, built probably between 1820 and 1839, originally served as a gate lodge to The Steeple, a house constructed in 1827 for G.J. Clarke. A lodge is depicted on the first Ordnance Survey map of 1832, suggesting a contemporary date. It was initially a single-story building with a widely overhanging slated roof. The walls were rendered and painted, and the building was originally T-shaped, with later extensions to the northwest corner. All window and door openings were segmental-headed, with plain sash windows and modern doors. The gate lodge featured fret-decorated piers and chamfered corners to the main building. It was demolished in the early 1980s to facilitate the widening of Steeple Road.
