Description

The Talbot Inn is an inn that dates back to around 1470, with additions and alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries. It features a Doulting ashlar frontage, stone tiled roofs, coped verges, and stone stacks, arranged in a symmetrical "U" plan. The building is two stories high with three bays, showcasing paired sash windows with glazing bars.

At the center, there is a broad segmental-headed carriageway with double 20th-century plank doors. On either side of the carriageway, there are additional doors: to the left, double three-panelled doors, and to the right, a six-panelled door. Above the archway, a wrought iron bracket supports a sign on the first storey.

The return to New Street has four bays under plain tile roofs, with remnants of two-light mullioned windows on the upper floor, one of which still retains its centre mullion. The right window features a pointed arch head. The ground floor includes a single light opening with a trefoil head, a blocked two-light mullioned window, a small single light opening, and to the left, paired 18th-century sash windows. There is also a blocked four-centred head door opening.

An inner courtyard is accessible through the archway and is flanked by earlier wings. The right wing has a 1:2 bay arrangement with two moulded two-light mullioned windows on the first floor, which were formerly topped with trefoil heads. The ground floor features a former door opening with a chamfered four-centred stone surround, now altered to a window, along with three additional door openings. The left side is irregular, with a chamfered stone mullioned window of two lights and a similar blocked opening above. A door opening on the first floor is reached by a flight of stone steps with a solid balustrade.

At the rear, there is a further wing at right angles, which includes an 18th-century sash window in the gable and a blocked attic light with a label. The interior of this wing has a fireplace on the ground floor set in a segmental-headed stone surround.
