Description
This is a house of medieval origin, with significant alterations and additions made in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was originally a 2-bay open hall, later expanded to a 3-unit and cross-passage plan. One room is now incorporated into the adjacent property at number 36.
The house is rendered and colourwashed, with a triple-Roman tile roof and two large brick ridge stacks. The front elevation has two storeys and features two full-height canted bay windows to the right, each with a 5-light casement window on each floor. These windows have moulded wooden mullions and leaded lights, with a pantiled pent roof over each. To the left of the ground floor of the right bay is a 3-light window with moulded wooden mullions and leaded lights, which is a 20th-century addition. The two bays to the left have further 2- and 4-light mullioned windows, also 20th century, with leaded lights. There are two door openings; the principal door is to the right and features a 6-panelled door within a moulded wooden surround. A 20th-century glazed door is located to the left.
The interior’s notable feature is the presence of three joined cruck roof timbers. A small garderobe is located on the first floor, and there are remnants of 17th-century wall paintings.
