Description

No. 18, Castle Street is a pair of houses, dating back to the 16th century, with later alterations. The building has a rendered exterior and a pantile roof, featuring a brick stack. It is arranged over two storeys with a 1:1 bay arrangement. The left-hand building is set within a projecting gable wing at a right angle to the front facade. A two-light casement window with remnants of leaded lights is located to the left of the first floor, while a single-light four-pane casement window sits to the right. The ground floor features 20th-century fenestration, including a segmental bow window with glazing bars on the right side. Two 20th-century half-glazed doors provide access. Inside, the ground floor rooms contain chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and the roof exhibits evidence of cruck construction. The building is included on the list primarily for its group value.
