Description

A group of four houses at 16-22 Bampton Street, Minehead, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, and incorporating earlier materials. The houses are constructed with painted render over cob or rubble stone, with slate and concrete tile roofs. Some party walls have brick and rubblestone stacks. The houses have double-depth plans. They are arranged symmetrically with two-window ranges, except for number 16, which has three windows, and number 22, which has one. First-floor windows are set at eaves level.

Numbers 16 and 18 have mostly 19th-century three-light casement windows with small panes. Number 16 has a planked front door with a hood, which includes a two-light window above and a crested slate roof extending over the right-hand range of number 18. Number 18 has 20th-century wooden shutters to the first floor and a rubblestone stack to the right of the door, where the roof pitch to the left is shallower. Number 20 has 19th-century three-light windows with small panes on the first floor, but 20th-century doors and windows on the ground floor. Number 22 has a 20th-century door to the right and 20th-century windows. These have a continuous concrete tile roof with brick stacks to the gable ends. The interiors were not inspected.
