Description

Manor Farmhouse, originally known as Manor House, is a mid-17th century manor house that has been converted into a farmhouse, with some early 18th century work and minor 19th century alterations. The building is constructed from coursed rubble with dressed freestone alternating quoins, and features slate roofs with coped verges and brick and ashlar stacks.

The symmetrical U-shaped frontage includes side wings with front-facing gables, and the structure has two storeys and an attic. The central section has three bays, while each wing has a single bay on the inward face and a single bay on each end elevation. The windows are 2, 3, and 4-light moulded stone mullioned types with hood moulds, iron stanchion bars, and square paned leaded lights. Each gable face has an oval window in a keyed stone surround with leaded lights, one of which is blocked. There are also two 19th century box dormers.

The central door opening features a chamfered freestone surround and a plank door, with a later flat-roofed porch supported by wooden posts. The left return displays early 18th century features, including 12-pane sash windows with keyed cambered heads, and a central door opening with a 6-panelled door in a freestone surround topped with a wooden pediment on brackets. A gabled former porch is located at the rear.

Inside, the farmhouse boasts two fine dogleg staircases with splat balusters, chamfered and stopped ceiling beams, and three rooms with early 18th century panelling, one of which blocks a ground floor window. The property is enclosed by a walled forecourt.
