Description
Higher Dairy House is a detached cottage with origins dating back to the 17th century, which has been modified, and its roof was likely raised in the 18th century. The building is constructed from ham stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a double Roman clay tiled roof between stepped coped gables, along with brick end chimney stacks. It has two storeys and consists of two bays.
On the ground floor, there are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses, with labels above; the first bay has a 4-light window and the second bay has a 3-light window. On the upper floor, there are 3-light plain mullioned windows with iron-framed central opening lights. Between the bays, there is a boarded door with toplights, which is hung on a heavy frame and accessed by seven steps, set under a timber lintel. The higher west gable features a similar plain mullioned window, along with an earlier-type single-light casement below it. The east gable has 20th-century windows, and there is an outshut on part of the rear elevation. The interior has not been seen.
