Description
Islets Farmhouse is a detached cottage with origins dating back to the 17th century, which was remodeled in the 19th century. It is constructed from cut and squared ham stone and features a Bridgwater patent interlocking clay tiled roof with bargeboarded gables and brick chimney stacks. The building has a 'T'-plan layout and consists of two storeys with three bays.
The windows are small-pane casements set under timber lintels, with 20 panes in the lower outside bays, 15 panes above, and 12 panes in the upper centre bay. The upper windows have bargeboarded dormer roofs. In the lower bay two, there is a 19th-century part-glazed door beneath a timber hood supported by plain timber posts. There are single-storey extensions on the north gable.
The south gable features a hollow-chamfered mullioned window set in a chamfered recess with a label, which is a two-light window with external ferramenta and a 20th-century casement above. Extending from the southeast corner is a long single-storey extension with a double Roman clay tiled roof, along with a further 19th-century extension at the rear of the house. The interior has not been seen, but the owner reports that it includes an earlier roof frame with some thatch still in place.
