Description
The Southwood monument is a box tomb located about 3 meters south of the south porch of the Church of St Andrew and St Mary in Pitminster village. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and is made of Ham stone. The tomb features a pyramid top, a moulded cornice, and a plinth, and it has a square plan. There are two inscribed recessed panels on each face; the north and east sides are plain, the west side is illegible, and the south side is inscribed to Samuel Southwood, who died in 1757, and his wife Elizabeth. This monument is noted for its unusual design.
