Description
Old Way House is a cottage dated 1635, with alterations made in the mid 20th century. It is constructed of whitewashed random rubble and features a thatched roof with coped verges on the right. The building has external stone stacks at the gable ends, with a bread oven projection on the right. The plan consists of two cells and a cross passage with a modified stair turret. The cottage is one and a half storeys high and has three bays, with the central bay projecting to accommodate the stair turret. There are eyebrow dormers: a three-light dormer on the left and two two-light dormers on the right. The ground floor has a two-light window on the left and a three-light window on the right, which displays the initials ID flanking a rose with leaves motif, along with the initials MHEB. The ground floor windows also feature 20th-century ornamental shutters. Inside, there are chamfered beams with run-out stops. The wall of the cross passage on the right has been moved to create three rooms on the ground floor, and there is a large curved bay to the left of a modern grate in the right gable end. The rose with leaves motif is similar to those found in Stream Farmhouse, dated 1619, and at No 3 Robert Street, dated 1616, both located in Williton.
