Description
No. 18 Broad Street is a house with a shop, now functioning as a shop with offices. It dates from the mid-19th century and features a rendered and colourwashed exterior, accented with toothed ashlar quoins. The roof is made of Welsh slate and is hipped at the south end, with brick chimney stacks.
The building has three storeys and three bays, along with a single-bay angled return at the south end. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front that spans the entire width, adorned with ashlar dressings. Above this, the building has sash windows in plain openings, with 12-pane windows on the first floor and 9-pane windows on the second floor. All first-floor windows are complemented by small ornamental wrought-iron balconies with rounded ends.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of the development that occurred shortly after Broad Street, formerly known as Wette or Water Lane, was widened in the early 19th century.
