Description
14 Broad Street is a house with a shop that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone that has been colourwashed. The building features a Welsh slate roof behind a high parapet and has brick chimney stacks.
The exterior consists of three storeys with three wide bays. There are side pilasters with fielded panels, a fluted string course between the upper floors, and a cornice with a parapet that has three recessed panels. The ground floor has two 20th-century shop fronts, but in the center, there is a doorway with a five-panel door set in a timber doorcase that has fluted pilasters and a simple entablature. Above, there are sash windows in plain surrounds, with 12 panes on the first floor and 9 panes on the second floor. A 20th-century projecting hanging sign is located between the first and second bays at first floor level.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of the development that occurred after Broad Street, formerly known as Wette or Water Lane, was widened between 1835 and 1849.
