Description
Hodge Carpet Saleroom is a building located on Fore Street, likely constructed in the late 19th century. It stands two storeys tall on Fore Street and has one storey at the rear. The exterior is made of painted brick with banded quoins. It features a cornice and a parapet, with a pier adorned with volutes on the left side. The front has three sash windows without glazing bars. The side elevation facing Paul Street displays similar architectural details. A high painted brick parapet with large urns is attached to the left side of the building. The shop front on Fore Street is part of a continuous range of shop fronts extending down Paul Street. It has a dentilled cornice above a plain fascia, which is supported by pilasters and half-columns, with paired three-quarter columns in Paul Street. The shop glazing is modern. The building is part of an important group that includes No 1A Billet Street, No 66 The County Hotel, the Brendon Bar, and No 8 East Street, along with listed buildings in Cheapside, Fore Street, and the Parade.
