Description

Laurel Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse, likely dating back to the 17th century, with modifications made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of roughly squared and coursed local lias stone, with a double Roman clay tile roof featuring an ornamental tiled ridge and plain gables. Brick chimney stacks are at each end. The farmhouse has two storeys and originally three bays. It has casement windows with three lights and horizontal glazing bars, set beneath timber lintols. A boarded door is situated within a heavy frame, also under a timber lintol, in the lower bay of the original three. A matching, single-bay extension is set slightly lower to the west and includes a rooflight and two-light casement windows at a mezzanine level. On the west gable, a doorway has been blocked and replaced with a window, although the stone stairs leading to the original doorway remain. A single-storey extension from the 20th century extends to the rear. The interior is reported to contain a wide fireplace with a chamfered timber lintol, and a transverse ceiling beam with deep stepped run-out stops. There is also an indication of a former spiral staircase within the west gable.
