Description

This is a detached farmhouse dated 1694, although it was partly rebuilt after a fire. It is constructed from local lias stone that is cut and squared, with a thatched roof featuring stepped coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three wide bays; the third bay, which is half the total width, appears to be from the 19th century. The farmhouse has timber casement windows, with the first two bays featuring ovolo mould frames with plain lights, all being four-light windows. The lower pair shares a label, while the upper pair has separate timber lintels. The third bay contains three-light casements set under voussoired slightly segmental arches. Between the second and third bays, there is a six-flush panel door set in a lined recess. The north gable has a small pane casement and a blocked ground floor window, while the south gable features a timber framed attic window. A date plaque bearing the name John Pyne is located between the upper windows of bays one and two. Although the interior has not been seen, it is said to retain a cross-passage plan.

In front of the farmhouse, there is a cast-iron fence that is connected to the house by one-metre high coped stone walls. The fence has hexagonal posts with pyramid finials, horizontal rod rails, and double-curved braces with vertical middle-braces carrying spearheads. There is a gate that matches the door of the house, likely from the early 20th century, which enhances the setting of the farmhouse.
