Description
This building, known as No. 2 Middle Path, is a pair of cottages that have been converted into a house and shop. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The front is made of painted, coursed limestone rubble, while the rear is constructed from rubblestone. There is squared stone on the right side of the front, indicating a possible rebuild or extension from the late 18th century. The roof is made of pantiles, hipped to the north and tapering to a gable with a truncated stack to the south, along with a brick stack at the center of the ridge.
The building consists of two single-unit plans, each two storeys tall with a one-window range. The right side is part of a fish and chip shop and has been completely altered. Both sides feature 20th-century windows and doors. Inside, the building is undergoing reconstruction. The ceiling heights are just over 2 meters. To the left, there is a large open fireplace with a chamfered, slightly arched lintel, and above it is a small opening leading to a former fireplace in an upper chamber. One remaining roof truss has trenched purlins, a notch-in-apex, and a pegged collar. There is thatch beneath the pantiles, and straw holding plaster to the rafters still remains.
