Description
Christ Church is an Anglican church built in 1839 by Richard Carver. The structure is made of coursed and squared rubble with a slate roof and coped verges, featuring two cruciform finials and a gabled bellcote with a bell at the west end. The church has a nave with a west porch and a north vestry, as well as a chancel, all designed in a lancet style. The five-bay nave is supported by diagonal buttresses at the corners and has tall lancet windows with hood moulds, including triple lancets at the west end. The porch also has diagonal buttresses and features a lancet on each side, along with a pointed arch door opening, hood mould, and paired ribbed doors. The chancel is short and narrow, with a lower height, diagonal buttresses, a lancet on each side, and triple lancets at the east end. The vestry follows the same architectural style. Inside, the church has plastered walls and tile floors, a western gallery, and a mid to late 19th-century reredos, altar rails, lectern, font, and cover. The pulpit, reader, and pews are from the early 20th century, with the pulpit designed in the Art Nouveau style. The west window features plain leaded lights, while the stained glass in the chancel is likely from 1876, and the remaining windows are from the early 20th century.
