Description

Nos 8 and 9 High Street are a pair of cottages that date from the 18th century or earlier and have been modified over time. They are constructed from local stone rubble and are colourwashed, topped with a plain clay tile roof featuring an ornate bargeboard on the east gable. The cottages are two storeys high and consist of four bays.

The windows are two-light casements with plain lights; the upper bays one and two have old frames, while bays three and four have horizontal bar casements. Below, there are plain shop windows in bays one and two and horizontal bar two-light casements in bays three and four. There are 20th-century patterned glazed doors located between bays two and three and also to the right of bay four. All openings have exposed timber lintels.

The east gable, which protrudes from the street line, features a late 18th-century two-light hollow chamfered window with pointed arched lights and deep cut spandrels beneath a square label, along with a shaped corbel at the corner above the chamfer. The interior has not been seen.
