Description
Upton Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the 17th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is made of clay pantiles and features coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The cottage is two storeys high and has three bays.
The windows are hollow chamfered and mullioned, with a 4-light window on the ground floor and a 3-light window above, both featuring rectangular leaded panes and iron-framed opening lights. There is a continuous string course above the ground floor windows, which steps up over the doorway in bay 2. This doorway has a 20th-century boarded door set in a moulded cambered archway.
On the west gable, there is a lean-to extension of early date that includes a 2-light mullioned window under a separate label. There is also another plain lean-to against the east gable. The interior has not been seen.
