Description
Thatched Cottage is a detached cottage, possibly dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of local stone that is roughly squared and coursed, topped with a thatched roof featuring plain gables and small brick chimney stacks. The cottage is single-storey with an attic and consists of two bays. It has cross-glazed casement windows with two lights, which are set under timber lintels. Between the windows, there is a boarded door framed heavily, leading to an open timber porch that has a corrugated iron lean-to roof. To the right of the second bay, there is a simple glazed stairlight, and above the second bay, there is a casement window set in a swept dormer. The north gable wall is of a different construction and may indicate that the house was shortened from a longer original structure. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to have a spiral stair in the southwest corner and two crossbeams with chamfers, one of which features a semi-circular step and run-out stops.
