Description

This is a 19th-century lime kiln located on Cole's Lane in Chewton Mendip. It is built from coursed and squared rubble and has a large square shape with a flat top. The top features remnants of thin iron railings and a hoist. At the base, there is a concave draw-hole. There is a lean-to structure attached to the front, but it is not considered of special interest. The kiln is situated on the site of a former quarry and represents an important and complete example of industrial heritage.
