Description
Axbridge Wine Vaults is a shop and house dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations from the 19th century. The building is rendered and scribed to resemble ashlar, featuring end pilasters and a parapet with plain coping. It has an M-shaped pantile roof and brick ridge stacks. The structure is two storeys high and consists of four bays. It has flush mounted sash windows, with the window to the right on the ground floor being a late 19th-century design that includes a single vertical glazing bar. To the left of the ground floor is a mid-19th-century double-bayed shop front, which features a 5-light window on each side of a 20th-century glazed door, along with an overall fascia. The door opening contains a broad six-panelled door, with the top two panels being glazed, and decorative pilasters that support a bracketed open pediment. The core of the building is likely medieval in origin.
