Description
The Old Almshouse is an almshouse that has been converted into a function room. It likely dates back to the early 16th century but was rebuilt in 1983. The building is constructed of random rubble with a pantile roof and brick end ridge stacks. The modern frontage is designed in a Perpendicular style. It has two storeys and features three bays, with two-light stone mullioned windows and a single light window in the center of the first floor. Each window light has a cusped head and leaded lights, along with stopped labels. The central door opening is framed by a broad semi-circular headed stone surround with a stopped label, leading to a 20th-century panelled door. Inside, there are some 15th-century features, including three fireplaces with plain chamfered stone surrounds and a garderobe located in the center of the rear wall on the first floor. The roof structure from the 16th century consists of three tenoned collar and tie beam trusses with windbracing, while the remainder of the interior is from the 20th century. The building is included in the heritage register primarily for its historical interest.
