Description

Ye Old Market Shoppe is a house and shop, originally built in the 16th and 17th centuries, with a substantial refronting in the early 19th century. The exterior is roughcast, scored to resemble ashlar, and features a parapet with coping and a pantile roof with a ridge running perpendicular to the frontage. A brick stack is partially rendered. The building has a three-storey, single-bay frontage, with a false second floor that includes two 12-pane sash windows set within blank openings and a tall parapet. A 16-pane window is located on the first floor, featuring stepped voussoirs. The ground floor has a small double shop front to the left, featuring a 2-light window on each side of a small, ribbed and glazed door, with a narrow fascia board. A further door opening is on the right, incorporating a 20th-century part-glazed door, a blocked fanlight, and an open pediment supported by brackets and pilasters.
