Description
This is a timber-framed shop and house, likely dating to the 16th century, with alterations in the 17th and late 18th centuries. The front is timber-framed and rendered, displaying exposed close studding with a middle rail, and continuous jetties to the first and second floors. The ground floor jetty is underbuilt in brick. A pantile roof with a wide overhang is visible on the left gable, and arch braces are present on the left return.
The building is three storeys high and has three bays. The second floor has 3-light casements, while the first floor features 2-light transomed casements with leaded lights. There is a 36-light shop front on the ground floor, along with two door openings to the right. One entrance has a half-glazed door with a transolight, and the other features a 18th-century six-panelled door recessed within a moulded and stopped wooden surround.
A two-storey, single-bay rubble wing is attached to the right, with flush-moulded sash windows that have lost some of their glazing bars. The building was undergoing restoration at the time of a resurvey in December 1983.
