CHARLTON HORETHORNE CP MAIN R0AD (East side) Hoakens Chest Tomb, in churchyard 17 metres North West of Tower, Church of St Peter and St Paul

Chest Tomb. Probably C17. Local stone; base buried, plain slab sides; heavy flat top with angled coving; the whole being an unpointed wedge plan shape, not rectangular. No inscriptions visible on weathered flanks, but at the thinner West end a probably later inscription reads 'Here lyeth the/body of Richard/ Hoakens he/dyed/ocl F ye 9 1760 AGED 72/years'.
