Description
Hamilton House is a town house dating from around 1800, located on the north side of High Street in Bruton. The building features local stone that has been rendered, with an ashlar plinth and a stone slate roof topped with plain gables. It has three storeys and three bays, with 12-pane sash windows arranged in pairs on the outer ground and first floors. Notably, there is no window in the second bay on the first floor. The central entrance door is a six-panel design topped with a semi-circular fanlight, framed by a stone surround with flat Doric pilasters supporting an open pediment hood. In the 19th century, Hamilton House served as a branch of Stuckey's Bank. At the rear, there is a coach house that is now a separate property, known as No 6, Higher Backway.
