Description
No. 23 High Street is a shop that was formerly a pair of cottages, dating from the 18th century or earlier, with a 19th-century front. The building is constructed of colourwashed ashlar stone and features a stone slate roof supported by abutments, with brick chimney stacks at either end. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The shop front includes a double angled bay window with recessed double central doors that are separated by a cast iron column, along with a thin fascia and a bold cornice. On the first floor, there are two Venetian windows, with the window in the first bay set in a square bay and topped with a heavier cornice than the thinner cornice on the rest of the facade. Above, there is a plain parapet. At the rear, there are two projecting wings, the westernmost of which has a stone roof and dates back to the 18th century. The ground floor has been significantly altered internally.
