Description
No. 35 on Shiremoor Hill is a detached house dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some modifications. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared Ham stone, featuring ashlar dressings. The roof is double Roman clay tiles set between coped gables, likely replacing thatch, as the flank walls have been raised. The house has brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle.
The building is two storeys high and has four bays. The first bay contains two 3-light ovalo-mould mullioned windows set in wave-mould recesses, which are not aligned. The second bay features two 3-light hollow-chamfer mullioned windows in chamfered recesses. The upper part of the third bay has an early 2-light casement window, while the fourth bay has two 3-light plain beaded mullioned windows with shallow architraves. All windows include sole iron-framed opening lights. In the lower part of the third bay, there is a boarded door in a heavy frame beneath a timber lintel.
There is a 20th-century brick and timber lean-to garage attached to the south gable, while the north gable is plain. The interior has not been seen.
