Description
Lower Moor Cottage, formerly known as Lower Moor Farm Cottage, is a cottage dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is built of cob and rubblestone with a thatched roof and features two front lateral stacks. The stack on the inside left is offset above the eaves and has a brick shaft, while the stack on the inside right is offset both below and above the eaves and has a rendered cylindrical shaft. There are also brick stacks on the left gable end and at the rear of the building.
The cottage has a convex-curved three-unit plan, with a lateral stack serving the central hall and lean-to extensions on the left and rear. It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. The windows are 19th-century three-light casement windows, and there is a 20th-century door to the left of the left-hand stack. A small horizontal single light window is located to the right of the left lateral stack. The uphill central range is single-storey and set back, featuring a four-light window.
To the far right, there is a low two-storey range from the 16th century, which has timber lintels over a blocked door and windows. The top right window was originally a two-light window with a 16th-century oak mullion. The right return has a 19th-century painted rubblestone panel with a door, while the left return is made of exposed rubblestone and includes a 19th-century three-light window on the first floor, positioned above the slate-roofed lean-to. The interior has not been inspected.
