Description

Whatley Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1650, situated alongside an adjacent outbuilding. The cottage is constructed of rendered materials and has clay pantile and double Roman tile roofs, with brick stacks at the ends. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The windows are 2-light ovolo moulded with painted stone mullions; the left bay’s ground floor window retains parts of a dripstone. A central door opening is present, leading to a plank door and a flat-roofed, half-glazed porch that extends along the left half of the facade. A hipped-roofed wing, single bay in width, is located to the left and features 19th-century casement windows. An adjacent outbuilding is connected to the cottage by a pent-roofed outshut. This outbuilding is single bayed and has a 3-light window with ovolo moulded mullions. Inside the cottage is a broad fireplace with a wooden lintel. The outbuilding likely represents the remains of a former dwelling.
