Description

The gatehouse, located to the west of Manor Farmhouse, dates from around 1500 and is constructed from random local limestone rubble with a plain tile roof. It is two storeys high, with all window openings blocked except for one on the left side of the ground floor. The entrance is slightly left of centre, featuring a moulded Tudor arch with carved spandrels and a label, along with corbelling above that likely retains the remains of an oriel window. Inside the passage, there is a Tudor arch doorway. At the rear, there is a double chamfer depressed arch, which also dates from around 1500. The rear side includes stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway on the left, which has a chamfered Tudor arch, and a similar blocked opening to the right of the stairs below. To the left of the arch, there is a corbelled chimney breast and a plain doorway above the arch. The interior consists of four bays that retain original roof trusses, including one raised cruck with an arch brace. The walls are partially plastered, and there is a fireplace surrounded by a heavily chamfered Tudor arch.
