Description
Southfield House is a country house dating from the late 18th century with early 19th century additions. It is constructed of Bath stone ashlar and features a slate roof behind a cornice and parapet, with coped verges and ashlar stacks, as well as seal box dormers. The house is designed in a classical style, with the garden front displaying a symmetrical arrangement of 1:5:1 bays. The central section features 12-pane sash windows set in reveals, flanked by rusticated quoins. The outer bays are slightly lower and have full-height angular bays with three windows. The main entrance is a central door opening with a plain stone surround and a three-quarter glazed door. There is also a rear door opening in an aediculated surround. Inside, the house retains original fireplaces, decorative plasterwork, and woodwork in the ground floor rooms.
