Description
Nunney Court is a country house built in the early 19th century, with later extensions and alterations. It is constructed of Doulting ashlar stone and features prominent quoins, a rusticated basement storey, and a plain stone band between the first and second storeys. The building has a moulded and dentilled eaves cornice, a parapet, a slate roof, coped verges, and ashlar stacks with caps. The facade is classical in style, consisting of two storeys and a basement with seven bays. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set in reveals; the left three bays belong to a later addition and are divided by pilasters on the ground floor, topped with a cornice. The right bay of the original style was constructed in 1939. The entrance features a plain door opening with a stone portico and a flat entablature that has a dentillated cornice supported by two Tuscan columns. A half-glazed door is accessed by a flight of stone steps with plain handrails. Inside, the house contains original doors, plasterwork, and a staircase. The left three bays have a barrel vaulted ceiling in the upstairs room. The property was once owned by the Fussell family, who operated ironworks in the valley below.
