Description

The screen walls located about 25 metres south of the barn at Lodge Farm date back to the 17th century or possibly earlier. They are constructed from roughly coursed Doulting stone with ashlar quoins. The walls measure approximately 7 metres in length and 5 metres in height. At a height of 1 metre above ground level, there is a row of three niches featuring pointed arches and cills. Symmetrically placed over these, more than 3 metres above ground level, are two additional niches of similar design. To the rear of the walls, there is a lean-to building, likely of a later date. Extending at approximately right angles to the east, there is a 10-metre long wall that stands 3.5 metres high, which also features two niches with pointed arches and cills, located 1 metre above ground level. This section includes door openings leading into the lean-to building at the rear, which is probably more recent. The original purpose of these walls remains unknown.
