Description
This barn, located about 10 meters northwest of East Hall Farmhouse, is a Grade II listed structure. It was reshaped in the 19th century but is built on earlier foundations. The barn is constructed from Cary stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a plain clay tile roof featuring plain gables.
The south elevation consists of five unequal bays, with bays three to five being two stories high. In bay one, there are stable-type doors at mezzanine level, while bay two features large doors set in a segmental arch, above which is a gable containing openings for a pigeon loft. Bays three and five have small-pane casement windows with segmental arches, with a three-light window below and a two-light window above. Bay four has boarded doorways on both levels, with the lower doorway being segmental arched.
Inside, the barn has king post roof trusses and houses a 5-meter diameter water wheel on the north side, which is still in working order. This water wheel has a drive shaft for a thresher and other equipment, installed by Petters of Yeovil in 1884. Additionally, there is a large extension with a catslide roof on the north side.
