Description

Lockyer's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with some additions made in the 20th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with ashlar dressings. The roof is mostly thatched, featuring plain verges and some coped gables, while the extensions have clay double Roman tiles and Welsh slate. The building has brick and stone chimney stacks and is designed in a T-plan with additional structures.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an irregular arrangement of windows. The north elevation showcases a variety of casement windows and includes a central projection with a lean-to extension. The south elevation is highlighted by a central coped gable that features a blocked central doorway, a first-floor oriel window with 1+2+1 lights and ovolo moulded mullions, a stepped stone roof, and a former attic window that is now blocked, with a single-light ovolo mould and a label above. There are later casements on the earlier side at both levels, and to the right, there are two doorways from the 19th century, one of which has a porch hood.

An extension on the west side includes stone steps leading to a first-floor door on the west gable and a stable door on the north side. Inside, the house may have been divided at one time, with features that include an ovolo mould square-headed doorway, a door and spiral staircase next to the hall chimney stack, a four-panelled hall ceiling, scroll-stopped ceiling beams, and a wide fireplace that cannot be dated. On the first floor, there is a small lateral fireplace with ovolo moulding and jambs that are shouldered forward into the room. Part of the medieval roof shows signs of smoke blackening.
