Description
The former fire engine house, located 4 metres behind No. 5 Silver Street, dates back to 1866. It is constructed from local stone that is cut and squared, featuring Doulting stone ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof with stepped coping on the west side. The east gable is plain and has an octagonal stone chimney stack on a square base, topped with a moulded cap. The building is single-storey and consists of 2 bays. It has a plinth and ashlar quoins, with two just-pointed, 2-centre arched doorways that have keyed ashlar surrounds in the west gable. Above and between the doorways is a plain stone plaque inscribed with "1866 Engine House." Access to the building was originally from the former playground of the National School, which is now a car park.
