Description
St Mary's Vicarage is a vicarage dated 1822, constructed from local stone that is cut and squared, with Doulting stone dressings. It features a hipped Welsh slate roof behind parapets and has brick chimney stacks at each end. The southeast elevation consists of two storeys and five bays, with the middle three bays projecting slightly. The building includes a plinth, an eaves cornice, and a low plain parapet. It has 16-pane sash windows set in plain surrounds, and in bay three, there is a 4-centre arched doorway with a part-glazed door. There are later 19th and 20th-century extensions of one storey to the east. The vicarage was built on the site of the stables of the former Bruton Abbey by Richard Hoare of Stourhead, adjacent to part of the old boundary wall of the Abbey.
