Description
The gateway located at the northwest corner of the Old House at King's School is likely from the early 19th century. It is constructed of Doulting stone ashlar and features a four-centre moulded archway set on a plinth. The archway has a square label with shields in the spandrils that display the dolphin of Fitzjames of Redlynch, who were the founders of the free school. Above the archway, there is a plain rectangular plaque that reads "Hanc Scholam/AC MDXX/Privata munificentia causa/restituit/Edwardus VI Rex." This is topped by a string course and a battlemented parapet with a return.
