Description

The Church of St Mary is a parish church that dates back to the 11th century, with most of its structure from the 15th century, and it was restored in the late 19th century. It is built from random rubble and features slate and stone tile roofs. The architectural style is predominantly Perpendicular.

The church has a west tower topped with a saddleback roof, which is supported by prominent buttresses with offsets. High up on the west wall, there are three-light mullioned windows and a clock. The tower also has a lancet window and a two-light window on the north and south sides. The nave is a single bay, buttressed, and has three-light windows, along with a blocked south door. The north door features an 11th-century surround with one order of scallop capitals and zigzag decoration at the head.

The chancel, also buttressed and consisting of one bay, has a two-light window on the south side and a restored three-light window on the east. There is a priest's door with a hollow moulded stone surround. Inside, the church has tiled floors and a wagon ceiling from the 19th century in the nave. There are upper and lower entrances to the rood loft and some 19th-century stained glass. A classical wall monument from 1691 commemorates John Yerbury, featuring flanking columns and a broken segmental pediment with a coat of arms.
