Description

ST4717 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP NORTH ROAD (West side) 6/322 Barn about 14 metres north of The Priory 19.4.61 GV II Barn, possibly 2 cottages formerly. C18, possibly incorporating earlier fragments. Ham stone ashlar ends, squared rubble to west wall; thatched roof between stepped coped gables having gabletted finial to north and block sundial to south. West elevation single-storey with attic, 6 bays. Shuttered windows under timber lintols, of C20, to bays 1, 3 4 and 6, and similar windows to upper bays 2 and 4 in swept dormers: to bays 2 and 5 are boarded doors in heavy frames. On the east side towards the south end are 2 buttresses, and off north gable a first floor doorway, under timber lintol. Interior not accessible. Barn has group value with the Priory (q.v) to which it is linked by a gateway and wall (q.v).
