Description
Hoods is a detached house, possibly originally two houses, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed from cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings and features a thatched roof between coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has five bays. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned types set in chamfered recesses, without labels; the upper section has windows with 2, 3, 3, and 3 lights, and a 4-light timber casement in the fifth bay. The lower section features windows with 2, 2, 4, 2, and 4 lights, with the first bay having a recut 20th-century surround and traces of a blocked doorway to the right. Between the fourth and fifth bays, there is a moulded flat-arched doorway with a deep lintel, which has a 20th-century boarded door. A small rectangular light is present in the south gable. At the rear, there is a lean-to and a long eastward wing from the 18th century, which has a clay pantiled roof that appears to have replaced the original thatch. The interior has not been seen.
