Description

A row of three cottages, originally four, dating to around 1800, located on North Street in Stoke Sub Hamdon. The cottages are constructed of roughly cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings, featuring double Roman clay tiled roofs behind stepped coped gables, and brick chimney stacks. The buildings are two storeys high and comprise four bays total; the southern half of number 18 is a later addition. They have plain mullioned windows of three lights in bays one, two, and three; the lower window in bay one has been converted into a casement window, with a single-light window added to its right. Bay four contains two-light small-pane casement windows. The doorways have boarded doors, situated to the right of number 24 and to the left of number 22. A former doorway to the right of number 20 has been blocked and replaced with a two-light casement window, and another former doorway to the left of number 18 has been blocked and replaced with a casement. The interior spaces were not inspected during assessment. The row possesses considerable group value when considered alongside the nearby “The Priory”.
