Description
The Priory Barn, formerly known as the Tithe Barn in the grounds of the Priory, is a late medieval building that has undergone significant alterations, particularly towards the street, and is now divided into two storeys. Constructed from rubble with a stone-tiled roof, the southeast elevation, which faces the garden, features eight bays separated by two-stage buttresses with weather mouldings. There is a single-stage angle buttress at the left-hand corner and a plinth course along the base.
The barn has doorways with "flattened" pointed arches located at the first, third, and sixth bays from the left, with the sixth bay being wider to accommodate double doors. The wooden doors are adorned with nail-heads and moulded vertical strips. Windows are positioned on two levels, including two four-light and one two-light window, all featuring leaded panes, concave moulded stone mullions, and cinque-foiled lights beneath square heads. In the eighth bay at first floor height, there is a narrow internally splayed loop.
Both end elevations are gabled; one has a square ashlar stack at the apex, while the other features a carved saddle stone. The road elevation is elevated above road level, supported by a "battered" stone revetment wall, and includes a "flat-arched" doorway towards the left.
The Priory Lodge, its boundary walls, the Priory Barn, and Nos 1A to 3, which are consecutive, form a cohesive group.
