Description
The well head is set into a retaining wall below Halsway Mews in Bicknoller. It features 15th century stonework that was reset in the late 19th century. The structure is made of coursed and squared red sandstone and stands about 3 meters high. It has an almost square-headed opening with a deeply moulded architrave that includes stops and a hoodmould. Above the stone water trough, there is a recess with a two-order chamfered relieving arch. Additionally, there is a square panel with a quatrefoil design that contains a shield. The stonework is likely taken from Halsway Manor, which underwent significant rebuilding in the late 19th century.
