Description

Thorncombe House, built in 1744 and rebuilt in the early 19th century, has undergone extensive alterations in the late 20th century. The house features a rendered exterior over random rubble, with a moulded plinth, a moulded wooden cornice, a low parapet, coped verges, and a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. The layout includes an 'L' shaped stable block and service wing at the front of the house.

The house is two storeys high with five bays, showcasing sash windows in raised, flat surrounds. The ground floor has two segmental bay windows and many paned sash windows, along with a central semi-circular glazed bay that features moulded cornices, added in the late 20th century. The entrance has been relocated to the left side of the facade, featuring a flat-roofed Ham stone Tuscan porch with a setope and triglyph frieze, leading to a 20th-century six-panel door.

At the rear, there is a three-bay service wing with a steeply pitched slate roof, sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, and cruciform windows below, which is attached to the stable block. The stables have a double Roman tile roof and consist of two and a half storey gabled cross wings with a single bay and coped verges, flanking a single-storey three-bay centre that was restored in the late 20th century. The interior has been extensively altered in the late 20th century and is listed for its historic interest only.
