Description

ST51NW ODCOMBE CP 3/235 New Lodge (to Montacute House) 19.4.61 GV II Lodge to Montacute House (Montacute CP qv). Probably mid C19. Ham stone ashlar; Welsh slate roof between stepped coped gables; central stone chimney stack. Two storeys, 2 bays. Principal elevation is west gable: plinth, string course, aoulded coping to gable which has obelisk finials over kneelers and crown; shallow hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in wave mould recesses with labels, two 2-lights below and one 3-light above, all with ornamentally leaded lights; between lower windows a cambered arched doorway with incised spandrils in rectangular recess, square label over; to sides and rear are horizontal bar casement windows; lean-to against east gable. Interior not seen. With the nearby Odcombe gateway (qv), part of the important Montacute Estate.
