Description
Higher Farncombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century, with additions from the 18th and early 19th centuries. It is built of coursed and squared rubble, topped with a non-conforming concrete tile roof, and features both an ashlar and two rendered stacks. The building has a through-passage plan and includes a cellar, two storeys, and an attic, arranged in three bays.
The left bay has 16-pane sash windows set in freestone surrounds, while the centre bay contains a two-light casement window also in a freestone surround. The right bay features a four-light stone-mullioned window on the first floor, with iron casements for the lights that have quadrants. On the ground floor, there is a four-light chamfered stone-mullioned window with a label, alongside a further two-light stone-mullioned window to its right.
There is a door opening to the second bay framed in chamfered stone, which holds a late 19th-century panelled door. Above the door, there is a small window in an ovolo-moulded stone frame, with remnants of diamond-paned leaded lights. To the left of the door opening, there is evidence of two former mullioned and transomed windows set into the wall.
A single-bayed addition is attached to the right, featuring a two-light stone-mullioned window on the first floor and a three-light casement on the ground floor. Additionally, there is a section of rubble wall on the left with a chamfered four-centred head door opening, likely reused. The interior includes a similar doorway leading to the cross-passage.
